Abstract

The socio-cultural landscape of the Bodos, an indigenous group in Assam, is a captivating tapestry woven with historical significance, diverse traditions, and societal intricacies. This comprehensive study aims to delve into various facets of their lives, spanning historical origins, cultural heritage, socio-economic dynamics, and contemporary challenges faced by this community. The exploration begins by tracing the historical roots of the Bodos, unravelling the narrative of their migration and settlement in Assam. It scrutinizes their cultural ethos, including traditional practices, festivals, folklore, and artistic expressions, highlighting the significance of these elements in preserving their identity.

              Moreover, this study investigates the socio-economic structures within the Bodo community, analysing their livelihood patterns, agricultural practices, educational pursuits, and engagement in trade and commerce. It examines the roles of gender, community organizations, and leadership structures in shaping their societal framework. Furthermore, the paper illuminates the evolving landscape of the Bodos in modern-day Assam, addressing contemporary challenges such as socio-political aspirations, land disputes, migration, and efforts towards cultural preservation in the face of globalization. Through extensive research and analysis, this study aims to provide a holistic understanding of the socio-cultural life of the Bodos, offering insights into their resilience, adaptability, and the nuances that define their existence within the tapestry of Assam’s diverse communities.
