Abstract

This study explores the profound influence of Christianity on the Bodo society, focusing on the cultural transformations that have occurred since the introduction of the religion. The Bodos, an indigenous ethnic group in Assam, India, have undergone significant changes in their social, cultural, and religious practices following the advent of Christianity. This paper examines how Christian missions have impacted traditional Bodo customs, values, and community structures. By analyzing historical records, ethnographic studies, and contemporary accounts, the research highlights both the positive and negative aspects of this cultural shift. On one hand, Christianity has facilitated advancements in education, healthcare, and social reform within the Bodo community. On the other hand, it has also led to the erosion of certain traditional practices and a redefinition of cultural identity. This study aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the interplay between religion and culture, shedding light on the complex dynamics of cultural transformation in Bodo society.
