Social media has taken over and made everything so easy for people to get in contact, talk, and share anything with anyone. On the other hand, many studies now show that too much social media usage is linked to negative consequences for mental health, such as more depressive symptoms, anxiety, and feelings of isolation. This study investigates the complex relationship between social media usage and mental health outcomes, examining the ways in which social networking platforms can both positively and negatively influence an individual's psychological well-being. This study utilizes a mixed-methods design of survey data and in-depth interviews to show that while social media can provide social support, self-expression, and community, it also can lead to false comparisons, cyberbullying, and sleep disruptions. These results underscore the importance of responsible use of social media, targeted interventions, and evidence-based recommendations to minimize the deleterious effects of social media on mental health. This study hopes to illuminate the various ways that social media can affect mental health and to suggest methods of encouraging healthy use of social media as well as ways to avoid the dangers involved in social media addiction.
