Health Care system of the Kerala aims to make people healthy by reducing unhealthy situation and preventing diseases by an important aspect i.e., Health Promotion. Health problems intensify due to contaminated drinking water, lack of immunisation, improper disposal of waste materials, lack of toilet facility etc. These determinants are the source of Basic health care services. Primary Health Centres (PHC) of the Kerala’s health care system functions in promoting the basic health care services to the community. In this study an attempt has been made to analyse the effectiveness of PHCs in promoting basic health care in the community. For the detailed study, Pathanamthitta district in Kerala was selected.The analysis of the study reveals that there is significant association with the PHC and the basic health care. The visit of the PHC health workers and their services have complemented the health services such as immunization, better source of drinking water, use of boiled water, proper disposal of waste and discouraging dumping of waste in open areas. The study determined that the PHCs have a dominant role in promoting basic health care needs.
