Jane Austen's novels are often celebrated for their wit and social commentary. However, they have also been criticized for their lack of diversity. This paper will examine the portrayal of race and gender in Austen's novels, focusing on how she represents characters who do not conform to the norms of her time. The paper will also explore the ways in which Austen's novels can be read as critiques of social inequality.
