Abstract

Employability skills are fundamental prerequisites for securing, sustaining, and excelling in the workforce. The deficiency of these skills stands as a significant barrier to effective employment, posing a challenge to the ongoing expansion of India's economy. The dynamic nature of industries in India necessitates a workforce with diverse and adaptable skill sets. However, a conspicuous void persists between the skillsets possessed by job seekers and the mandates set by industries, particularly concerning recent graduates and entry-level employees. The lack of readiness of graduates and entry-level professionals is evident and a major concern, with the 'National Employability Report for Engineers 2023' revealing that more than 80% of engineering and technology graduates in India are deemed unfit for knowledge economy jobs. This research paper aims to underscore the gravity of the employability skill gap in students, seeking to identify the essential employability skills deemed crucial by employers for entry-level employees or graduates. The primary attention of this proposed research is to examine the explicit strategies employed by educational institutions to facilitate the development of employability skills among graduates, thereby establishing a meaningful link between academia and industry. By delving into the challenges and opportunities associated with bridging the gap, this case study provides insights into the current scenario and proposes potential strategies for improvement. The goal is to offer valuable perspectives for policymakers, educators, and industry leaders to address collaboratively the employability skill gap, ensuring a workforce that aligns seamlessly with the evolving demands of the Indian job market.
