Michel Foucault on Power and Schooling: A Sociological Analysis

This research paper will shed light upon Michel Foucault views on power and schooling. It will start with unfolding the meaning and importance of post-modernist perspective and how it redefines the traditional notion of power. It will further elaborate upon disciplinary notion of power as articulated by Foucault. Subsequently, it will elaborate upon how the schools can be seen as ‘disciplinary institutions’ via ‘disciplinary power’. Finally, the paper will discuss several disciplinary techniques used by the institution of schooling in order to practice disciplinary power over students to promote ‘normalcy’.
