Abstract

The rapid rise of social networking sites (SNsites) has significantly altered the way students engage with their peers, share information, and manage their academic lives. The younger generation makes up the majority of India’s population. In an era where digital engagement is pervasive, social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have become integral to students' social lives. This study examines the complex relationship between SNsites usage and academic performance among degree college students, aiming to determine the impact of digital social engagement on academic outcomes.  Using easy random sampling, the self-administered questionnaire was given to 260 students from four-degree colleges in Moradabad city. The data was analysed using descriptive analysis and tested using chi-square (X2) analysis. The findings indicate that excessive SNS usage is associated with reduced study time, decreased concentration during academic tasks, and poor academic outcomes. The paper concludes by recommending strategies for minimizing SNsites-related distractions, such as time management techniques and setting boundaries for digital engagement, to improve students' academic success.
