Nation and Nation Building: Locating the Indian Scene

Abstract

This research paper will shed light on the entire process of nation-building in India, focussing on several challenges it encountered in its path towards nation-building. It will start with unfolding the socio-political climate of India before colonial rule, how the state itself was formed and how a national consciousness or national identity took birth within Indian masses. It will further elaborate upon several indigenous challenges India encountered in its journey towards nation-building. Finally, the paper will elaborate upon how the formation of national identity led to the birth of several indigenous complexities. It concludes by underlining the contemporary challenges and disparities existing in India as a nation and the urgent need for the revival of inclusivist principles and secular ethos in which the seeds of this nation were planted.
