Abstract

This study investigates the role of libraries in collecting, documenting, and archiving indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage within SGBAU-affiliated colleges, emphasizing challenges such as digitization, cultural sensitivities, and intellectual property rights.

Aims:
The research aims to assess the effectiveness of library programs in preserving indigenous heritage, analyze the challenges in digitizing traditional knowledge, and explore how these initiatives enhance community awareness and access.

Methods:
Employing a descriptive research design, data were gathered from 100 librarians and library staff using a structured questionnaire distributed via Google Forms, with a disproportionate stratified random sampling method and supplemented by secondary sources.

Findings:
Descriptive statistics indicate mixed perceptions on preservation and digitization efforts, and a chi-square analysis (χ² = 42.5, df = 4) strongly supports that libraries play a significant role in safeguarding indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage.
