LANGUAGES OF NASHYA SHEKH MUSLIM COMMUNITY: AN ANALYSIS IN THE LIGHT OF SOCIOLINGUISTICS

Language is a communication system in social life. The social aspects contribute to language heaving its own identity. In fact, social parameters create diversity in language. Such as the diversity of dialects due to differences in education, age, religion, caste, profession and area. Nashya Shekh Muslim community has many social parameters that create diversity in language in Rajbangshi or Kamtapuri. The diversity of languages and social structures in India has created a complex yet sustainable relation between linguistic variations and social classifications. This paper proposes a sociolinguistic study of linguistic variation and code matrix in North Bengal. It shall be interesting to note the social behaviors’ mirrored in different word and dialects usages, variety of codes and resultant code-mixing and code-switching. The study of code matrix shall define the current status of different dialects in the Rajbangshi.
