Abstract

Speaking abilities are the hallmark of any language and effective communication relies on strong speaking skills. To develop good speaking skills, one must particularly focus on two critical aspects: fluency and accuracy. This research paper specifically addresses these issues in the context of teaching speaking skills in the ELT (English Language Teaching) classroom in higher education institutions. It details about the identification of goals of teaching speaking skills and further discusses about the implementation of various steps essential for enhancing and assessing Fluency & Accuracy for Teaching Speaking Skills in ELT Classrooms. This paper also identifies key individual learner differences found in ELT classrooms and explores how to appropriately address these differences through the adoption of relevant methods, techniques, and technology-assisted teaching tools to bridge the gap. This paper, especially for ELT teachers, provides a roadmap for setting up a perfect classroom for language learners to enrich their speaking skills at the fastest pace.
