Abstract

Spirituality has remained one of the most significant dimensions of human life, shaping the way individuals understand existence, meaning, and their relationship with the universe. Since the earliest stages of human history, people have sought to explore the mysteries of life, creation, and the purpose of human existence. This continuous search has led to the development of spiritual and religious thought in which the idea of a supreme reality or divine presence plays a central role. Within theistic philosophy, the Divine is often perceived as both transcendent and immanent, existing beyond the physical world while simultaneously present within it. Indian philosophical traditions, as reflected in sacred texts such as the Vedas, Upaniṣads, Purāṇas, and the Bhagavad Gītā, present a comprehensive vision of the Supreme Reality through metaphysical and devotional perspectives. This study examines the interpretation and evolution of spirituality by analyzing various scholarly perspectives from religious, philosophical, psychological, and cultural viewpoints. Using a qualitative and analytical methodology based on secondary sources, the study reviews the ideas of prominent scholars who have defined spirituality as a process of seeking meaning, transcendence, and connectedness. The findings reveal that spirituality is a multidimensional phenomenon that integrates personal experience, inner transformation, and relational harmony with others, nature, and the divine. Furthermore, the study highlights the close relationship between spirituality and ritual, demonstrating how ritual practices function as tangible expressions of spiritual beliefs and values within communities. Ultimately, the paper concludes that spirituality serves as a holistic framework that connects philosophical understanding with lived experience, fostering personal growth, cultural continuity, and a deeper sense of unity between human beings and the larger cosmic reality.
